Cora Corduroy – Soft Grape
The cora cord is a great midweight that makes it perfect for so many different garments! It has little-to-no drape, with great structure. It has good body with a little movement and give-enough to be comfortable. It’s front face is covered in soft, velvety 4mm ribs. (8 wale-8 ribs per inch). And it’s finish textured and matte. The reverse is slightly textured and nice and soft to wear against skin. Completely opaque.
Corduroy has a strong nap, so your pattern pieces will all need to be cut in the the same direction up and down. Consider if your pattern may require extra fabric.
Trousers, skirts and structured-to-semi-structured bottoms. Avoid much, or any gathering. Jackets and very light coats. Tunics, pinafores and overalls. Great for designs with cool pockets & seam details.
Cord can get roughed up when worn, sewn or in the post on its way to you. To get the pile to sit flat, gently steam and use a fabric brush to brush the fibres downward to smooth them.
Finish all raw edges before sewing or your whole wash will be covered in tiny, corduroy ‘ants.’
